Sound of a Building – Acoustic Archeology – Making of

We are TELESKOP, two music producers from Leipzig. We do sound creation for different projects. Right now we are working on “Acoustic Archeology – Sound of a Building“ In this project we want to explore the acoustic peculiarities of a building. We work with sounds of different items in these rooms to collect material for a composition that is going to be performed. Abandoned industrial buildings create big fascination in a visual way. Obviously the feeling connected to a building is changing when it is reused and renovated. The same thing is happening to these buildings acoustically too. The machines or whatever has been inside is being removed and the disrepair over the years is changing the acoustic features as well. We are fascinated by this intermediate state and want to capture it in Audio. If we want to make the building speak we need to explore its features. If I make a clap now, the reverb back there is more important to us than what is happening here. If I record one note with an accordion or a flute, the overtones in the room are what we are really using for the track. It is a new approach to interlace the building´s characteristics with the music. We are trying to use all this as the basis of a composition that should be performed with real musicians. So we will come back to this place and present the piece.
